The desire for transformation is inherent in man by nature and manifests itself in all areas of life. This feature is implemented in computer programs using built-in MS Office tools. In Word, you can add a border to all or individual pages, sections or part of the text. In the settings, you can change the line type, thickness, color, and even insert a graphic design.

Often, to make the presented material clearer, it is necessary to use various decorative elements in the text. The simplest of them is a decorative frame around the text. Unfortunately, some users do not delve into the functionality of MS Word and insert text into a table consisting of one cell. Such an element is difficult to change and the text inside is practically impossible to adjust. Difficulties may arise with editing the page itself if there are still tables in the text. Therefore, to focus attention, it is better to make a frame.

Microsoft Word provides quite a wide range of options for formatting and designing text in documents. One of the options for the latter may be a frame, and it is its creation that we will talk about today.

There is only one method documented by Microsoft developers for adding a frame to a Word document, but if you give free rein to your imagination, you can find a couple of alternative solutions that provide slightly broader design and customization options. Let's look at all of them in more detail.

Method 1: Page Borders

Let's start with the simplest and most obvious method of creating a frame in Word, by turning to the section for setting page borders.

Method 2: Table

In Microsoft Word, you can create tables, fill them with data, and design them using different styles and layouts. By stretching just one cell along the edges of the page, we get a simple frame that can be given the desired appearance.

  1. Go to the tab "Insert", expand the button drop-down menu "Table" and use the cursor to indicate the size of one cell. Click the left mouse button (LMB) to add it to the document page.
  2. Using the mouse, drag the cell along the edges of the page. Be careful not to go beyond the fields.

Note: When borders are “crossed”, they will be highlighted in green and displayed as a thin strip.

  3. There is a base for the frame, but you probably won’t want to settle for a simple black rectangle.

You can give the object the desired look in the tab "Table designer", which appears on the Word toolbar when you select an added element.

In this way you can create both a relatively simple and a more original frame.

  4. Note: The text inside such a table frame is written and formatted in exactly the same way as regular text in a document, but in addition it can be aligned relative to the borders of the table and/or its center. The necessary tools are in the additional tab "Layout" located in the group "Working with tables".

The main work with text inside the frame is carried out in the tab "Home", and additional actions are available in the context menu.

You can learn more about how to work with tables in Word and give them the desired appearance from the articles provided at the links below. With just a little effort, you can definitely create a more original frame than those that are in the standard set of a text editor and were discussed in the previous method.

Method 3: Figure

Similar to a one-cell table, you can use the inserting shapes section to create a frame in Word. In addition, the possibilities for their design provided by the program are much wider.

  1. Open the tab "Insert", click on the item "Shapes" and select any desired element that more or less resembles a rectangle. Select it by pressing LMB.
  2. Hold LMB in one of the upper corners of the page and drag it diagonally to the opposite one, thus creating a frame that will “rest” against the margins, but not go beyond them.

Note: You can select not only “empty” shapes (outlines), but also those that have a fill applied, as in our example. In the future, it can be easily removed, leaving only the frame itself.

  3. Having selected the added object, go to the tab "Shape Format".

This way you can create a truly unique frame, giving the document a desired and recognizable design.

To start writing text inside this shape, right-click on it (RMB) and select the item in the context menu "Add text". A similar result can be achieved by double-clicking LMB.

  4. By default it will be written from the center. To change this, in the tab "Shape Format", in the tools group "Text" expand the item menu "Alignment" and select the appropriate option. The optimal solution would be "On the top edge".

In the tab "Home" You can set your preferred horizontal alignment type.
